PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT ON JULY 30, 2019, CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES CHANGED THE CHARTER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AND THE MILITARY SERVICE ELIGIBILITY DATES FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE AMERICAN LEGION. THE NEW QUALIFYING DATES OF MILITARY SERVICE HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO INCLUDE: WORLD WAR I - April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918 WORLD WAR II - December 7, 1941 until Congress recognizes the end of the WAR ON TERROR at a future date. If you have served active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States of America during any of the time periods listed below, and have been Honorably Discharged, or are currently serving, you are eligible for membership in The American Legion. World War I April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918 World War II December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946 Korean War June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955 Vietnam War February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975 Lebanon/ Grenada August 24, 1982 - July 31, 1984 Panama December 20, 1989 - January 31, 1990 Gulf War/ War on Terrorism August 2, 1990 - Present Other Conflicts All dates after December 7, 1941 to present, that are not included in the above periods.
