                                  VETERANS COMMEMORATIVE PARK

                    Yorktown’s American Legion Post #1009 was chartered on May 1, 1931.  
    The Post has remained in operation since that date providing support and service
    to both our Veterans and the Yorktown Community since that date.

                    Today the need for Veteran support is greater than ever with many of our
    men and women returning home with terrible wounds requiring long term
    rehabilitation and career training.  In addition, many of our soldiers have
    developed PTSD requiring continuous care and treatment.

                    Our Post has committed itself to raising funds to provide support and
    services to these brave survivors and their families.  To help us accomplish this we
    have designed and recently dedicated a Veterans Commemorative Park which
    contains memorials, flagstaff, a decorative wall with military branch emblems, and
    Engraved Bricks to remember all Veterans.  These unique commemorative bricks
    can be purchased with Veterans’ names and service information engraved upon
    them and they form a plaza adjacent to Yorktown American Legion Post #1009
    where our nation’s flag freely flies over Yorktown.  Commemorative Bricks can be
    ordered at any time and will be installed into the plaza with a dedication ceremony
    each Memorial Day weekend.  Order forms can be picked up from our Yorktown
    Post Hall or printed off of our Post #1009 website at www.nylegion1009.org.

                    This is your chance to “remember” your family members and friends who
    served with honor in the U.S. military.  You may even have relatives dating back to
    the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and the Spanish American War.  We will
    honor, cherish and remember them ALL.
