| On August 18th 56 people attended a pleasant afternoon BBQ at the Post. |
| Cmdr John Giacomini took a few minutes to recap our busy year of accomplishments and then introduced Sue and James Regan, the parents of Beth Regan, a very special young lady. Beth had befriended a USMC WWII Raider at a local nursing home. When this veteran, who had no living relatives, passed on, she was afraid that he would have no one attend his funeral. Beth made a plea through the internet for people to come and honor this WWII veteran. Thanks to her efforts over 200 people attended. Fire Departments draped US flags from their ladder trucks over the street, NYPD officers carried the casket into the church, and a US Marine Corps detail folded the flag and presented it to Beth. |
| Cmdr Knapp recognized Past Post Commander Al Laughlin for his tireless work and numerous job titles in keeping everything running in the Post. |

| Our Yorktown Post presented the Department of New York American Legion's Red, White, and Blue Award' to Beth for her wonderful act in honoring this veteran. |
| Our Yorktown Post also presented Beth with our first-ever Liborio 'Lee' DeFrancesco Award and a check for $500 for her efforts in honoring this WWII veteran. |
| Post member Ed Donovan and his wife, Marie are pictured here with Cmdr. John Giacomini and Sue and James Regan. Ed and Marie submitted Beth for recognition by The American Legion. The Donovans were instrumental in having an award named after Post Legionnaire Liborio "Lee" DeFrancesco and funded the endowment of the award. Thank you Ed and Marie! |
